These Dreamlike Portraits From 1913 Are Among The Earliest Color Photographs

Mervyn O’Gorman (1871-1958) is best known as one of the greatest British engineers, and during WW1 was head of the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough. O’Gorman was also known as an early pioneer of color photography, and was an artist in addition to his interest aeronautics. Many of his images are included in exhibitions referencing early color photography, including this dreamlike series of his daughter Christina using the Autochrome process in 1913. The Autochrome process, patented in 1903, was the first fully practical single-plate color process that was accessible to the public.

The beach images are from Lulworth Cove, Dorset and feature her in a bright red swimming costume—a color the early process captured well. Christina is also captured in red in every other scene, drawing the eye immediately to the subject and her long strawberry blonde hair. The up-close image of Christina has an oddly modern feel as her clothing is hard to pin to a singular time period. O’Gorman’s wife Florence and second daughter are featured in the last portrait, the photographer’s camera box seen just to the left of his family.

Is He The World's Best Dad? Father Takes Adorable Photographs With His Little Girl

Ever since his daughter and the love of his life was born back in 2010, photographer Dave Engledow has been taking photos of her. He refers to himself as the worlds greatest dad. Going by the photos, he is definitely a pretty hysterical dad.

Using a high quality camera and some clever post production techniques Dave manages to capture the moment so incredibly well. We have selected a number of our favourite shots and added them for your viewing pleasure below.

Project Superhero Photographs Children With Special Needs From A Wonderful Viewpoint

Photographer Renee Bergeron's son Apollo was born with a double aortic arch, a rare congenital heart defect. Apollo was diagnosed at 18 months old and has undergone two heart surgeries, had a g-tube placed and countless other medical procedures. After seeing how much he enjoyed the super hero images of himself, The Superhero Project was born. Renee now shares her gift of photography with other families of children with special needs. A Man Spent Years Taking Photos Of One Small Town. When You Look Closer, You'll See Why.

Artist and photographer Michael Paul Smith has spent hours upon hours photographing one special town that he holds very dear to his heart. There is something that always drew him to it, and the images he created are simple, but stunning. They glow with small-town charm and innocence, reminiscent of days and decades past.

The town he photographs is quaint and beautiful.


It's like each picture tells a story of how 
life used to be in the United States.
There's not much going on in these pictures, but it's obvious that this town is nothing but charm.

But, as it turns out, also not real.

Michael builds custom miniature models and sets, meticulously crafting every detail.

Then, the 60 year-old photographer creates the hyper-realistic images.

If you didn't know any better, you might think these are vintage photos of a town from a few decades ago...

 And NOT the extremely small models this man built.







He started building these models as an exercise. He wanted to practice his craft and also photography.

 He never imagined it would be a "dream-like reconstruction" of the town he grew up in.

 To Michael, this is what quintessential America looked like when he was a kid.

It is absolutely beautiful.
If "Elgin Park" were a real town, I would love to live there.
He creates the scenes by setting up Danbury Mint and Franklin Mint die cast autos and trucks in front of his models on card tables.
Then, he uses the surrounding scenery to make the backgrounds for the photos.
The perspective has to be JUST right...

Usually the resulting photos are completely convincing.
Even when you know what's going on behind the scenes.
It's all an illusion.
But Michael is able to make an incredibly convincing one.


His selfies aren't part of the official photo series, but I think they just add to the charm of his work.
